Reduction in fatalities at work
The HSE recently reported 173 workplace deaths between April 2011 - March 2012, a fall of 2% from the previous year.
The rate of fatalities, expressed as the number of workers killed per 100,000 employees, shows that the most dangerous sectors to work in are:
- agriculture - 9.7
- waste and recycling - 4.1
- construction - 2.3.
It was noted that all three sectors have seen improvements in the recent years, and the level of fatalities is better than other leading European nations such as Germany, France, Spain and Italy.
